The International Society for Twin Studies (ISTS) is an international, nonpolitical, nonprofit, multidisciplinary scientific organization. Its purpose is to further research and public education in all fields related to twins and twin studies, for the mutual benefit of twins and their families and of scientific research in general. The Society was founded in Rome in 1974.

Any individual (twin researcher, twin, parent of twin, or other person) who supports the objectives of ISTS and is willing to contribute to the achievement of those objectives is qualified to join the Society. For more information on the Society and how to join, follow the Membership link.
ISTS membership includes annual subscription to the journal Twin Research and Human Genetics (6 high-quality journal issues a year as well as full text online access). Application or renewal can be made online at https://genepi.qimr.edu.au/ists/ists.cgi or you can download the ISTS 2013 Membership Application/Renewal form and fax it to +61-7-3362 0101. Please check the payment procedures for membership dues. Please note that membership runs for the calendar year, January to December.
The Bylaws of the Society define the role and duties of the ISTS officers, who jointly constitute the Board that runs society matters between Congresses, and have been revised to reflect better the current status and working of the Society. The revised bylaws are now available.
The Society organizes a triennial (biennial from 2010) International Congress on Twin Studies.

The 15th Congress of the International Society for Twin Studies will be held in Budapest, Hungary, from Sunday 6 April till Wednesday 9 April, 2014. More information will be available soon.

The 2010 Congress was held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Seoul, South Korea from June 4-7, 2010, in conjunction with a One Day Workshop for Genetic & Epigenetic Research on Human Behaviors and Complex Diseases (June 2) and the 40th Annual Meeting of the Behavior Genetics Association (2-5 June). The 2001 Congress was held in London, UK in July 2001. The 2001 Congress Program is still available here. The most recent congress was held in Denmark in 2004. The 1-day ISTS Mid-Congress Conference was held at The University of Southern California on June 29, 2005. The 2007 Congress was held in Ghent, Belgium June 7-10, 2007.
